American Michael Phelps scorched to his sixth gold and his sixth world record in the Water Cube pool, closing in on Mark Spitz's 1972 record of seven golds in a Games.

The 23-year-old now has 12 career Olympic golds, three more than anyone else. Like Spitz in 1972, all of his golds at these Games have come in world record times. Amazing!

Also on the front of my FAVORITE sport in the Olympics, Women's Gymnastics: Nastia Liukin, the Russian-born, Texas-raised gymnast came from behind on the final two rotations of the women’s gymnastics all-around Friday afternoon to win the gold medal that had eluded her father and coach, Valeri Liukin, 20 years ago.

Liukin, 18, from the Dallas suburb of Parker, totaled 63.325 points to edge Shawn Johnson of West Des Moines, Iowa, the 2007 world champion, with 62.725. Yang Yilin of China scored 62.65 points for the bronze.

With her victory, Liukin joins former training partner Carly Patterson and 1984 gold medalist Mary Lou Retton in the pantheon of American all-around gold medalists, and she stands alone in her execution of the classical style she was taught by her father, a four-time medalist for the Soviet Union who came up a fraction of a point short for the men’s all-around title in 1988.

Gasoline has finally gone under $4 per gallon at my local gas station...$3.99 to be exact....

Today is Martin's birthday! Happy birthday, sweetheart! We are going to have a nice dinner...we have both been working really crazy hours the last few weeks, often side by side until after midnight at our computers in the office...we both need a "veg" day really soon...

Update on the Log House: We have gone to the bank and are working on getting our contractor certified by the bank...once he's on their "list" ... we can go ahead with the formal application process. Its a little different for a building/construction loan than a regular mortgage, but we have a great guy at M&T bank we are working stay tuned!

Have a great weeked everyone!
