What is YOUR New Year's Resolution?

Here's my "top five":

1. Lose weight
2. Get out of debt
3. Be creative, all the time!
4. Stay organized
5. Take more pictures

Of course, at least three of the resolutions above have been on my "list" for a while...but I can just feel it -- this is going to be "the year"!

What are your resolutions?

Blog Slacker, but Christmas with M-i-c-k-e-y!

I have been a bad, bad blogger for the last two months...its been time filled with tons and tons of stuff for work, being sick, being in the Emergency Room, appointments and Christmas in Disney with Mickey Mouse!

All is much better now, 80 degree weather and lots of fun helps A LOT! On Christmas Eve, we were standing in the middle of the street, in a t-shirt and capris, with the Osbourne Family lights dancing to Christmas tunes, and snow falling...no traffic, cold temperatures or rat race!
I have been doing lots of rubber stamping, made all my Christmas cards this year ... an array of different styles, but I'm pleased I got to use up some supplies and got them in the mail.
We got most of our outside decorations up for Christmas, a few are "among the missing" and because we aren't dragging EVERYTHING out this year, we probably won't find them until next year....I did get the "Coffee tree" up in the kitchen, I think next year its time to invest in a bigger tree after adding some new ornaments this year....before you know it, it will be time to pack it all away again...I miss my snowman collection this year!
My sister and neices are coming for a visit, they arrived the day we got back...so one more busy week, and then Friday and Saturday quiet, calm before I go back to work on January 5...ahhhhh!
Hope your holiday was happy and merry!

Happy Halloween!

I'm sitting here drinking my pumpkin spice latte...done with the decorating, just have to carve the pumpkin...20 bags of candy are ready to go...dinner is planned (General Tso's chicken and lo mein - homemade). I told you I would get it all done -- just before the lid of the box closes, I'm jumping in ... I won't be late to my own funeral, I'll get there just in time! LOL!

Tomorrow I'm going shopping with my mom and Caitie (my neice) to get a dress for my cousin's wedding on November 15...we'll have some lunch and a nice girl's day. I have Caitie overnight while her mom goes to yet another wedding...Sunday may be a Costco run.
I'm still checking things off my list, getting the house in order...and I found honey chrisp apples...want to try them after I heard so much about them from Kal Barteski. I think I'll go try one right now!
Have a great weekend everyone!

Zombie Jar Swap

I finally found a little time to catch up and post my Zombie jar swap pictures! Here's the jar I got:

He's an adorably spooky hand made zombie in green swamp sand complete with fog, a dead looking tree, snakes and rats! Awesome job!
The jar I sent: I found the witch at a cute antiques center in Vermont -- I added some spider webs and little seed type things that look like mini-pumpkins. Then I had to find the jar! I ended up paying $2.58 for a huge jar of pickles at Walmart in Virginia (my Zombie jar is from all over the United States!)...and after fixing it up and realizing its better upside down -- my witch had a home!
Tonight was what I called my "what was in the house dinner" it actually ended up being really awesome! I had some frozen tilapia filets in the freezer, I defrosted...I see-sawed between beer battered and breaded, but ended up opting for a modified Bobby Flay recipe -- grilled with a little olive oil, salt and pepper...and I made a great sauce with leeks, butter, lemon zest, lemon juice, white wine (all reduced down by half) then I added some capers...it was YUMMY! I also made orzo pasta with spinach in it...and then I used up some pie crust I had in the fridge and a handful of granny smith apples and made a rustic apple pie...Martin never had it soo good! All with "on hand" items!
My goal for this week is to get the house cleaned and organized...Halloween decorations up...the pumpkin carved...and then I can pull out some winter clothes (brrr!) and put away the summer clothes...in between work and the rest of the laundry, dishes, etc.! Wonder woman cape on - check!
Have a great week!

SO happy its Friday...

The re-building begins! This week marked the start of the rebuilding of Martin's building after the fire last January...the official date was October 22...temporary heat is the first order of business...and then floor joists above him.
I finally joined Facebook -- it is AMAZING to me...all the people I have connected with over the last couple of days...people from high school, my jr. college, fraternity brothers, old work acquaintences and my neighbors!
Tonight I'm going out with two very old friends from high school...Andrea is here from Arkansas to help her father recover from a broken hip and Whitney who I ran into at Brighton and works in NYC, lives in Queens...I'm looking forward to a big margarita and some great catching up! Its funny how the best of friends just pick up from where we left off...its easy and all comes rushing back so quickly!

Saturday we are off to the property upstate to plan our our driveway and where we will put the house footings...with Martin's brother and sister -- hopefully the rain will stay away and we won't get soaked.

Sunday is Elmo's Green Thumb with Caitie! ...even though she tells me she would prefer seeing My Little Pony LOL!

Enjoy the weekend, whatever you are doing!

A pink firetruck?????

While watching the Bonnie Hunt show yesterday, she did a story on the Pink Ribbon Tour...a fireman who has been going cross country with a pink ribboned fire truck and a bunch of guys in pink turnout gear! There are so many wonderful breast cancer awareness activities going on this month...a lot of money is being raised to eradicate the horrible disease which has claimed many friends and loved ones...

Here's another event I ran as the captain of the Power of Pink for Brighton:

Danbury Hospital ran a Health Fair in the mall on October 17 & 18, and we participated in the window contest...we are in the running to win $500 for our charity, the New Milford Hospital Low-cost Mammogram fund. So far, we have approximately $1000 to donate.

Busy October...

Wow, its been a while since I have blogged...its been a really busy month! I drove to Virginia with my mom and neice Caitie a week ago... gasoline was only $2.76 a gallon!

We went to the Berry Farm pumpkin patch...Caitie didn't enjoy the hayride to the patch, but after a while, she warmed up to the animals and both Caitie and Jillian LOVED the corn pit...it took a strawberry slurpie to get them out of there!

We also went to the Richmond zoo, its a small zoo, but has an awesome giraffe cage where you can feed them...it also had a great "petting zoo" and the girls enjoyed feeding the "nibblers".

Alexandra has a special attachment to the giraffes...she has loved them since she was a baby...and has a vast collection in her room. We had a near miss...Caitie and Jillian were right up against the fence when a giraffe decided to slurp his long, purple tongue out and just missed licking Caitie and Jillian...how he missed them, I'll never know...but Elizabeth and I laughed and laughed about it...

It was great being back in Central Virginia, I really miss it! I'll be back again some day!

Tagged....

My bestest friend and sister separated at birth Grace completed this "tag" on her site and she tagged me. Now I have to answer the questions and name eight (8) more friends/mates to complete it too.

A) People who have been tagged must write their answers on their blogs and replace any question that they dislike with a new question.

B) Tag eight (8) people to do this quiz

Here goes...

1. How many songs are on your iPod? About 150, I haven't been using it much lately.
2. What music would you want played at your funeral? Ave Maria, it always makes me cry -- and I want people crying at my funeral.
3.What magazines do you have subscriptions to? Creating Keepsakes, Everyday Food, Cuisine at Home (I have eliminated a LOT of my subscriptions lately).
4. What is your favorite scent? I used to love Beautiful, but now I mostly wear Philosophy's Falling in Love.
5. If you had a million dollars that you could only spend on yourself, what would you do with it? I would pay off my house, build my log cabin on our property upstate and help my sisters...I would pay for Creative Escape for next year and go to more scrapping events, with my friend Grace.
6. What is your theme song? Sara, Smile (by Hall & Oates)
7. Do you trust easily? Fairly easily
8. Do you generally think before you act, or act before you think? I try to think first, before acting, but sometimes that doesn't happen.
9. Is there anything that has made you unhappy these days? My weight, being so busy
10. Do you have a good body-image? No, I'm the fattest I have ever been currently.
11. Is being tagged fun? Yes!
12. How do you spend your social networking (Facebook, etc.) time? IMing with Grace and my sister, reading blogs (I have an "everyday" list).
13. What have you been seriously addicted to lately? Greek food like salads, gyros and pizza
14. What kind of person do you think the person who tagged you is? Very sweet, caring, and generally overall a good person...we have very similar family lives.
15. What’s the last song that got stuck in your head? You spin me right round (baby, like a record) by Dead or Alive (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CMwdAc1Dzfg)
16.What’s your favorite item of clothing? I love my houndstooth coat
17. Do you think Rice Crispies are yummy? Not as a cereal, I'm not a big cereal eater, but I like the rice crispie treats.
18. What would you do if you see saw $100 lying on the ground? Right now I'm so broke, I would probably pick it up and go buy groceries with it or buy gasoline with it...
19. What items could you not go without during the day? Bare Essentials makeup, if I'm going out -- otherwise I work at home, and live in my PJs.
20. What should you be doing right now? Working, but I'm blogging and listening to the presidential debate.

8 mates: Cindy Liebel, Monique McLean, Penny Maggio, Sally Lynn McDonald, Grace/Sandi have already been tagged, and the rest of my friends are not bloggers....

Twilight the movie preview and POP pictures

I found this picture of Robert Pattinson, the actor playing Edward in the Twilight movie (based on the amazing Stephenie Meyers series of books), on Perez Hilton tonight...I think he's got it nailed! Here's another great site for movie trailors, etc.

I am also including some pictures of the Power of Pink breakfast I threw at the Brighton Collectibles store in Danbury this past Saturday...it was a great success!

Enjoy!

The return of Survivor (Gabon) and awesome Bob!

I don't watch many reality shows...I'm more of a CSI, Entourage, 90210 (I know...don't judge, I'm re-living my youth) and Project Runway (ok, maybe this is a little reality-ish) type of gal. But I have watched Survivor since the first season -- when an alliance was something Richard Hatch dreamt up to stay in the game...the two-hour premiere was great! There is an awesome "cast of characters" this season. I can't really pick the front runner yet...but the older, nerdy Physics teacher (complete with bow tie) Bob is amazing! He knows how to make, do and figure out the best way to do everything so far! He's a real leader of his team... Go Bob!

Sweet and Sinister Swap Received from my partner Debbie!

I just went to the front door to check to see if any packages have arrived (I'm always ordering stuff online) and I was surprised to see my Artsy Mama's Sweet and Sinister Swap package from my partner Debbie from Richmond, VA.

Note: You can click on the photo to see it larger.

It was an awesome package full of buttons, trims, decoupaged boxes, tags, some snowmen (I collect them), some coffee themed items (candle, soap, lip balm), a black crow, candy and tons of black and white (with a little orange thrown in).

I love everything! Debbie, I'm going to be visiting Richmond in the next month or two, I would love to meet for coffee or something!

Out for a Sunday drive...and stopping at all those places we always wanted to...

On Sunday we got in the Yaris, filled up with gas, and just drove up Route 22 North...stopping at all of the little antique and junk shops we said we always wanted to stop at...the first place was closest to my house in Patterson, NY -- Fanny Doolittles had AWESOME Halloween stuff, very cute:

Then we kept driving and passed the Big Moose Deli...I slept part of the way in the car and we happened to end up in Bennington, Vermont (about 2 hours from our house, Martin loves to drive) at this ADORABLE Camelot Village:
They had tons of collectible glass, dishes, old postcards, old buttons, books, telephones, phonographs, records, you name it! It reminded me of a big indoor flea market -- I had to call Grace right away! Telephone reception was terrible because we were in the mountains and around the ski areas -- but I finally got a text through to her! I got the bowl of buttons below for $3, there are some really awesome ones in the bag. I also got the stuff for my Zombie Jar Swap -- I can't picture it here until after the swap is sent/received -- I don't want to ruin it for my swap partner who I know has been on my blog!

We drove all the way there on Route 22 North and came home on Route 7 South, through Danbury, CT -- stopping at Panchos and Gringos on the way home for dinner, since it was 7:30pm and we were STARVING! It was a great, unplanned day!

Starbucks Sleeve Mini Album

Here are pictures from my latest class project a Starbucks sleeve album (designed by Wilna Furstenberg for SIStv). I finished this in about an hour -- added an extra section so that I had some more pages. This was so much fun and easy to do! I had some Basic Grey Cupcake line paper, so I used the sprinkles from that on the inside covers. The stick pin and beads on the cover holding the rick rack in place is from Stampin' Up!

I can't wait to add photos and journaling and maybe even make another one! Enjoy today!

Cupcakes and Coffee - Starbucks Mini album

Here are pictures of my Starbucks cup mini-album I created today -- its such a cute little album...it was fun to make. I can't wait to put some pictures and journaling in it!

I can't wait to see what the next project is in my "Cupcakes & Coffee" online class by SIStv!

Enjoy!
